Update about Outreach Initiatives

It has been a delight to see Trinity reopening again. By the time this hits the press, we will have hosted two Spaghetti Suppers. Thanks to Monica and her team for taking on this ministry. Mae and Women’s Fellowship ACW have been busy cooking and selling baking and mini meals, raising funds for the essential work of social service agencies in our community. Thank you, ladies. The Little Food Pantry team continues to restock the pantry that Trinity hosts each Sunday and Tuesday. Thanks to our Trinity and the St Andrew’s Presbyterian congregations for your continuing financial and food donations. We frequently see a Mom and her child in a stroller after church picking up food, as well as a couple of gentlemen who regularly visit the pantry. We have issued 5 Kitchen Boxes and Cleaning Buckets to individuals who have come off the waiting list and are moving into their own housing. Over the month of October, we have supported Ryan’s Hope and their work with those who are homeless, by collecting socks and long underwear, in preparation for the colder weather ahead. Trinity people are compassionate and generous folk!

Dr Amy and Joan both participate in a bi-weekly call with churches and partnering agencies (Busby Centre, Elizabeth Fry, John Howard Society, Gilbert Centre, Barrie Food Bank) to get updated on the current status and to plan for how our churches can assist in the support of those without housing / sufficient food. Trinity has proactively prepared license agreements for the coming winter in the event that our space will again be needed to serve as a warming centre. It is a joy to share our concerns and work together for those in need in our community. Following the example of St. Margaret last fall, the food pantry church hosts are running a Halloween food drive, to stock up on winter food items. This year, in addition to canvassing local neighbourhoods, we are trying a new approach, reaching out to residents of condo / apartment buildings where congregation members live. You may have seen flyers or heard of the food drive in your building!
